When one of the country’s largest prison systems modernized their central energy systems, Fulcrum was selected as the energy performance contractor charged with scoping and constructing the new 2,000-ton central chiller plant that would anchor the campus’ cooling system. Fulcrum’s team designed and constructed a new system that interconnected with a recently constructed cogeneration plant, leveraging the high-pressure steam output to create both electrical power and cooling via backpressure steam turbines and absorption chillers. The project also installed new high-efficiency electric chillers, cooling towers, emergency power generators, and paralleling switchgear to provide resilient service to the 24/7/365 campus.
